New Telegram update brings custom notification sounds and more

Telegram has released a new update, the second spring update for 2022, and it includes a raft of features and fixes. One of them is more customization with notification sounds.

The app will now let you turn any sound into a notification tone. This means your favorite song or pet sound can become a notification sound. To do this, tap a short audio file or voice message in chat to instantly add it to your list of notification sounds, which you can assign to any conversation. Telegram notes the tones are cross-platform and completely free.

You can still access sounds from the settings where you can add new tones and set custom tones for individual or group of chats.

The new update also allows you to mute notifications for more extended periods or more specific duration. You can now target an extended vacation or even a midday nap.

Telegram says Auto-Delete can be enabled in any chat to make a conversation more confidential or less cluttered. Now it takes fewer taps to enable and supports flexible timer settings – like two days, three weeks, four months, and more.

Also, when forwarding a message to another chat, the reply previews are carried along. This gives the receiver more context about your message.

This new update also has something for developers. It gives bot developers the tools to create infinitely flexible interfaces with JavaScript, one of the most popular programming languages in the world. With this, Telegram bots can completely replace any website. The interfaces can be made to match the user theme.

Still on bots, users can now quickly add bots to their group or channel right from the bot’s profile and instantly configure rights and permissions for the bot. Bots are used to handle small tasks like adding extra features or helping with moderation.

And there is now improved in-app translation for iOS users. Telegram has expanded the languages covered, including Ukrainian. You can add a Translate Button to the context menu through the Settings.

If you receive a video from your contact, Telegram has improved the watch experience on Android with picture-in-picture mode. The player window now has rounded corners and offers an X button to close it quickly. You can also pinch to resize it.

The update also offers new animations. For example, a new animated duck now walks you through the interface for changing your phone number in Settings.

Lastly, Telegram has added more animated emojis, including food that moves.
