Are you looking for new ways to spend your hard-earned money? If yes, you are in luck, as Meta is opening an online store. However, instead of ordering physical items, you will be able to purchase new digital clothing for your avatar for the perfect look you have always desired for your online representative.
Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger users can pop into the online store to deck out their avatar in the latest digital finery. Participating brands include Panda, Balenciaga, and Thom Browne, with more on the way so that there is something for everyone. You can kit out your avatar in a motocross outfit, suits, casual wear, hoodie, etc.
The CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, thinks you can’t resist splurging on the store, especially if you are of the Gen Z. “Digital goods will be an important way to express yourself in the metaverse and a big driver of the creative economy.”
Luxury fashion brands have been increasingly diving into the tech space via collaborations like this. For instance, last year, Balenciaga started offering its skins inside the popular Fortnite game, including hoodies for the characters. Also, Roblox has Gucci Town, where players can savor the brand’s logo and shop in a digital store.
However, despite the big fashion brands that joined Meta from launch, the company opted for a quiet launch. It didn’t even respond to inquiries in a timely manner. Also, the announcement omitted some details, including exactly when the store will be open to shoppers and how it will be accessed.
If you are raring to buy from Meta’s new online merchandise store, be aware that there are no prices announced yet. Perhaps, the digital goods won’t be as expensive as their physical counterparts.
Eva Chen, who is in charge of fashion partnerships for Instagram, showcased a Zuckerberg avatar wearing a cropped T-shirt (not quite close to what the billionaire wears in real-life), low-rise jeans (still not what you will catch him dead wearing), and a white belt.
Perhaps you will try that daring fit that you don’t have the guts for on your online avatar? The stage is all yours to experiment.
