Google has already announced the launch date of its next Pixel series smartphones. The launch event will take place on the 19th of October. As per the recent leak along with launching the Pixel smartphone Google might launch a subscription service called Pixel Pass. The Pixel Pass is rumoured to offer a Pixel smartphone, Premium Google Services, and an extended warranty. Think it of as Google’s attempt to take on Apple’s Apple One subscription.
The leak comes from Brandon Lee who runs a YouTube channel named This is Tech Today. Yesterday Brandon took to Twitter to post an image containing almost everything about Pixel Pass. He wrote Pixel Pass will be a blend of iPhone upgrade plans where users get a new iPhone every year and also the Apple One Subscription. Similar to the iPhone upgrade plan the Google Pixel Pass will offer Google Premium subscription services like YouTube Premium, Google One, etc. It will also offer an extended warranty and will be associated with Google Fi.
As you can see in the above-leaked image the term Pixel Pass is clearly used. It says Pixel Pass is a monthly subscription that addresses users’ mobile needs end to end. It is also mentioned that Google Pixel Pass is a mobile-focused subscription bundle from the house of Google. This means the Pixel Pass benefits will only be available on smartphones actually Pixel smartphones. The bundle will be composed of three benefits.
- A Pixel phone with Google’s promise of regular updates probably for 5 years.
- Services like Google One, Play Pass, YouTube Premium and also the network coverage from Google network service Google Fi.
- On top of the usual 1 year warranty Pixel Pass will provide extended warranty via Preferred Care or Device Protection.
Other than the benefits the leaked image also has a Purchase flow for the Pixel Pass. It includes details like confirming users whether they are already using one of the Google premium services. The second step provides the information around where users can buy the Pixel Pass. It reveals that these passes can be purchased through Google Fi or Google Store. Then there are other details around getting the Pixel Pass subscription depending upon getting it from Google Fi or Google Store.
It was long rumoured that Google might bundle all its premium services just like Apple did but it seems the company has gone ahead to make it more like the iPhone upgrade plan. Looking at all these benefits you might be wondering how much Pixel Pass will cost. As of now, there is no information about the monthly subscription cost.
If I have to predict I will say Google should price it at around $30 per month. If the service gets launched it will be available initially in the U.S. If it gets hit in the U.S. market then the company might think of launching it in other countries. Anyways, what are your thoughts about the Pixel Pass subscription? Would you like to subscribe to a service like this? Do let us know in the comments section below.
