Google is all set to launch its next Pixel smartphone Pixel 6. Where other companies like to keep the information of their upcoming smartphones secret Google officially teased the Pixel 6. It is also confirmed that there will be two models in this year’s Pixel lineup: the Standard Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. An official landing page is already live in some of the countries where the smartphone will go on sale.
The most highlighted feature of Pixel 6 is going to be a brand new Google Tensor chip. It is a custom chip designed especially for Pixel smartphones. Some of the other highlights will be a new design with revamped camera layout and punch-hole display. Interested in knowing some more information about Pixel 6, below is everything we know so far about the next Google flagship.
Google Pixel 6 Everything We Know So Far
Starting with the design, the Google Pixel lineup has never been known for its design in the past but things are going to be changed with Pixel 6. As per the teased images, Google Pixel 6 design is looking highly premium. On the front, It will have a full-screen display with narrow top, bottom, and side bezels. It will be achieved by adding the selfie camera in a centred Punch Hole.
On the rear panel, the camera layout is completely redesigned. The Pixel 6 will feature a large black rectangular camera across the top rear panel. There will be three separate colours for Pixel 6 and 6 Pro. Overall what we have seen in the teased images and renders Pixel 6 looks equally comparable to other flagships in the market.
On the Display front, The vanilla Pixel 6 will feature a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED Full HD+ Display with a 90Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, the Pro variant will pack a 6.7-inch Super AMOLED Quad HD+(3120×1440) 120Hz Display. It is expected that the refresh rate of Pixel 6 Pro will adapt to something like ProMotion Display on iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max. The screen is almost bezel-less. There will be a punch-hole display on both smartphones to feature the selfie camera.
As I mentioned above the most highlighting part of Pixel 6 is going to be its Google Tensor chip. It was long rumoured that Google is working on its own chip for Pixel smartphones codenamed Whitechapel. Earlier this year the search engine giant confirmed the marketing name of the chip as Google Tensor. It will be a chip designed by the Google engineers. It is going to be custom made for Pixel smartphones including the rumoured Pixel fold.
There is not much known about Google Tensor but as per the rumours It will be built on a 5nm process tech. Another leak confirmed its CPU specs as 2xArm Cortex-X1@2.80GHz, 2xArm Cortex-A76@2.53GHz, and 4xArm Cortex-A55@1.8GHz. It is good to see Cortex-X1 core as the main performance but I am a little disappointed to see two Cortex-A76 cores. It is simply because Cortex-A76 cores are now 2 years old. Anyway, these are just leaks and we should wait for the final announcement of Google Tensor. Hopefully, it will be a competitor to the Snapdragon 888 or Apple A14 Bionic.
Pixel series is always known for its industry-leading camera capabilities. With the addition of new camera sensors and an in-house chip, Google will try to take the cameras of Pixel 6 on a whole new level. You might have already seen the huge camera layout on the teased images of Pixel 6. As per the leaks, the Pixel 6 will have a dual-camera setup whereas the Pixel 6 Pro will feature a triple rear camera system.
The dual camera of Pixel 6 will consist of a 50MP Samsung GN1 Sensor Wide Angle Sensor and a 12MP(Sony IMX386) Ultra-Wide Sensor. The Pro variant will get an additional 48MP Sony IMX 586 Telephoto Lens with 4x optical zoom. Until last year Google was betting on 12MP sensors. Let’s see what Google can do with multiple high-resolution sensors.
Battery & Charging
As per the leaks, the Standard Pixel 6 will pack a modest 4614mAh battery whereas the Pixel 6 Pro will have a higher 5000mAh battery. In terms of charging both smartphones will support 33W fast charging. It is still not clear whether Google will bundle a charging adapter in the box. Not just Wired charging but Wireless charging is also going to be better on the Pixel 6 lineup. A new leaked Pixel stand with support for 23W charging has started the buzz of the Pixel 6 lineup getting the support for it. If it gets true Google flagship will have a much faster wireless charging than Samsung and Apple smartphones.
Pricing & Availability
Lastly and most importantly when the Pixel 6 line up is going to drop and how much it will cost. As per the Pixel 6 landing page, It will be launching this fall. Google flagship has a history of getting launched in October the only exception was Pixel 5 which got launched on 29th September. But this year it is less likely that Google will launch the Pixel 6 lineup in September.
The Android 12 launch event is going to be on 4th October. Google might officially launch the Pixel 6 series in the same event. In terms of expected pricing, it is sort of confirmed that Pixel 6 Pro will cost somewhere around $1000. At this price, It will compete with Samsung and Apple flagships. The standard Pixel 6 will be priced around $799.
Looking at the confirmed and leaked specs, It is almost evident that Google Pixel 6 series is going to be a game-changer for Google. Not just these devices will have Google Tensor but other specs are also looking complete on the paper. As per our expectations Pixel 6 series is going to be a huge hit.
