Google teased its next generation of Pixel smartphones earlier this year in August. The company showed some renderings of the upcoming smartphone. Along with that it also confirmed some of the specs like the Google Tensor chip that will be powering the next iteration of Pixel devices. It is likely that Google will launch the new Pixel smartphones in October.
Earlier this month the company officially announced the launch date of the Pixel 6 Series. It was scheduled for 19th October. Today was that day and Google held an online event to launch the Pixel 6 series of smartphones. As expected there are two models in the series: Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The biggest highlight of these smartphones is the all-new Google Tensor chip, redesigned camera layout. We will be covering both these devices in a bit more detail so keep reading the article.
Let’s first start with the standard Pixel 6. The Pixel 6 comes in three colors: Sorts seafoam, Kinda Coral, and Stormy Black. Each color comes with a different dual color pattern, In which the color of the part below the camera module is different from the part above the camera module. It creates a unique look and feels for each color option.
Moving next the Pixel 6 is powered by an all-new Google custom chip Tensor. It is the exact same chip powering the Pixel 6 Pro. The Google Tensor is built on a 5nm process and features an 8 core CPU in 2+2+4 core configuration. The two high-performance cores are Cortex-X1, two medium performance cores are Cortex-A76, and the remaining four cores are Cortex-A55 high-efficiency cores. The chip also features a 20-core GPU. It also has a lot of different AI features and a Google Titan T2 security chip. The device comes with 8GB of RAM and 128/256GB of storage.
Coming to the camera, the Pixel 6 packs a dual-camera rear system. The camera layout is completely redesigned. Now it goes throughout the top part of the rear panel. It features a 50MP Octa PD Quad Bayer wide camera with an f/1.85 aperture. The secondary lens is a 12MP Ultra-wide sensor with an f/2.2 aperture and 114-degree field of view. The camera comes with an LDAF sensor and OIS. On the front, it has an 8 MP shooter with an f/2.0 aperture.
Talking about the display, the Pixel 6 has a 6.4-inch FHD+ 90Hz Display. The Display supports an adaptive refresh rate so it changes the number of times the screen refreshes depending on use cases. So it goes all the way up to 90Hz where it is needed and also as low as 10Hz when there is no need for a higher refresh rate. It does help in preserving the battery life. The screen also has Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on the front.
In terms of battery capacity, Pixel 6 has a nice 4614mAh battery with support for fast charging. The device also has support for wireless charging. Other features include an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance and a screen fingerprint sensor. As per the pricing the Pixel 6 is priced at $599 and it is available for pre-order now. The shipping will start on 28th October.
Pixel 6 Pro
Now it’s time to talk about the bigger Pixel 6 Pro, It comes in three colors: Cloudy White, Sorta Sunny, and Stormy Black. Just like Pixel 6, it comes in a dual-color tone design. It means the part above the cameras has a different color than the bottom. With this new design, Google Pixel 6 Pro looks awesome. Now I can easily say Google Pixel smartphones are not just good in software but they are equally good in terms of hardware.
On the performance front, It packs the same Google Tensor chip as its elder sibling. The same chip means the same CPU, GPU, and AI performance. As the Pro model Pixel, 6 Pro has got 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and three different storage options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512GB.
The camera department is also the same as Pixel 6 except for the addition of an additional 48MP telephoto lens that supports 4x optical zoom. One additional sensor means the Pixel 6 Pro has a triple camera system instead of two sensors in the Pixel 6. The camera module is exactly the same as a black rectangular layout going across the rear panel. On the front Pixel, 6 Pro has got a better 11.1MP shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The Pixel 6 Pro also has various camera features like a magic eraser, motion mode, real tone, face unblur, etc.
It also has got a bigger and better 6.7-inch Quad HD(1440 x 3120) 120Hz OLED Display. Just like the Pixel 6 it also has support for adaptive refresh rate. The Display has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and 512ppi pixel density. It is always one display so you can always look at important notifications with just a glance.
The battery department has also seen a jump, The Pixel 6 Pro has a bigger 5003mAh battery with support for 30W fast charging. It also supports fast Wireless charging when combined with the newly launched Pixel Stand 2. Some other important features are under the Display fingerprint sensor, IP 68 rating, etc. Lastly, talking about the pricing, The Pixel 6 Pro is priced at $899. It is available for pre-order and will be available on 28th October.
So this is all about the newly launched Pixel 6 Series. Both the new smartphones have got a much better design, an all-new Google Tensor chip, a great set of cameras, and an attractive price of $599 for Pixel 6 and $899 for the Pixel 6 Pro. At this price, these smartphones are going to compete well with the rest of the competition, be it the Samsung S series or iPhone 13 Pro lineup.
