Apple is known for making really good phones, which it updates yearly. The company is one of the few that can boast of an ultra-loyal following, and this reflects in the number of units it sells every quarter. The Cupertino-based firm has recently released its 2022 edition of the iPhone; the iPhone 13. Do the iPhone 13 versions live up to the high expectations Apple has set with the previous versions?
We dive into the details of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini to uncover the truth!
The iPhone13 and iPhone 13 Mini design and specs
The simple truth is, the iPhone 13 is identical to the one before it, the iPhone 12. However, there is no real reason to complain because the design is still functional and pleasing to look at. Moreover, the design is still fresh as the iPhone 12 brought vast improvements.
The same applies to the Mini too, which is hard to tell apart from the iPhone 12 Mini.
Based on the above, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have OLED screens that are better than LCDs in multiple ways, 5G capabilities, and MagSafe charging. They also have flat aluminum sides and hardened glass front and back.
Looking closely, however, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini are slightly thicker and come with bigger camera bumps. Apple also changed the placements of the camera lens on the back with a new larger wide-angle camera. If you had the iPhone 12, you might not use the jacket for the iPhone 13.
On the front, the infamous notch has been slimmed down by 20 percent in length, but the height remains the same. But it still houses your FaceID and selfie camera.
Inside, Apple has upgraded the processor, as it is its custom. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini come with the A15 Bionic. However, except you are comparing with older iPhones, you won’t notice any difference in performance. Apps still open fast, and games do not lag.
One difference that will make a lot of people happy is the storage. People who purchase the entry version of the iPhone have always complained of space. This issue is grave for iPhone users because they can’t expand the memory with an SD card. However, with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini, the least expensive model comes with 128GB, plenty enough for all the apps, photos, videos, etc., that you might want to keep on your phone.
The remarkable thing is that Apple didn’t wait until complaints reached a high level before upgrading the memory. Apple has been accused of using limited space to force people to buy the more expensive options.
However, you can go for the 245GB and 512 GB options.
Apple added a new color option with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini. You can get the two in pink! To all the fashionistas, your time has arrived, as you can now match your phone to your outfit without a case!
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini battery
The battery is crucial in any smartphone since nothing works without it. Battery life on the iPhone 12 was disappointing, but it seems Apple has seen the error of its ways and adjusted the battery specs.
Apple boosted the battery by 15 percent on the iPhone 13 and 9 percent on the iPhone 13 Mini. Obviously, these additions contributed to the increase in thickness of the latest models. It makes sense, though, as Apple claims the iPhone 13 gets 2.5 hours extra of usage while the iPhone 13 Mini gets 1.5 hours.
These are solid numbers that affect how much users can get out of their phones. iPhone 13 owners can expect more than 15 hours of usage if their routine involves taking pictures, watching videos, catching up with emails, and some gaming. However, for less demanding users, the iPhone 13 battery can easily make it to the next day.
On the other hand, the iPhone 13 Mini battery life is obviously hampered by its smaller dimensions. Apple can only stuff so much battery in it. So while it is a noticeable improvement over the iPhone 12 Mini, the new Mini does not have the same stamina as its bigger sibling.
Our advice is, if you use your phone a lot, go with the standard iPhone 13 with a bigger battery.
The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini cameras
The smartphone camera is how most people take photos these days. The quality has improved, and it is always present. So, phone cameras are a big deal.
Despite the difference in size, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini have the same camera setup. You will find a regular wide-angle camera and an ultra-wide camera.
Apple has made the wide-angle camera sensor bigger, meaning it will allow more light in, work faster, and produce better pictures. The company didn’t even need to make a new sensor as it had simply imported the one on the iPhone 12 Pro Max.
The upgrade is apparent when you put pictures from the last models and the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini side by side. They are sharper, and the details are more accurate. The colors are richer while focusing is faster and more reliable.
The portrait mode works well even at night or in low light.
You will take nice videos, with the sensor stabilization smoothening out the footage even when you are walking.
There are two new camera modes; Photographic Profiles and Cinematic Mode. The former lets you change the tone and contrast before taking the photo instead of waiting to edit after you take it. Note that you can’t remove the adjustments after the effect. The latter brings the Portrait Mode to videos, blurring the background so that the main subject stands out.
The iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini were very good phones and will handily beat other flagships. However, with the improvements in battery life and photography, Apple has moved the bar a tad higher with the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Mini.
