Amazon’s new clothing store will use QR codes to send your clothes to the fitting room

Amazon, the online shopping behemoth, now has a physical store that you can waltz into to buy clothes. However, it is full of tech to give you a unique shopping experience.

The first fashion store by Amazon, known as Amazon Style, will open at The Americana at Brand shopping mall in Los Angeles later this year.

Amazon has been running other physical stores and will bring the tech it uses there to its first physical apparel store. The clothing racks will sport QR codes that you can scan to see info like sizes, colors options, ratings, and other useful details. You can send the apparel of your choice to one of the fitting rooms by the tap of a button, saving you the stress of rummaging for that perfect fit and carrying it all the way to the fitting room. Meanwhile, you will get in-app notification when a fitting room is free, after which you can sashay to see how good the clothing looks on you.

Meanwhile, your date with technology continues when you get to the fitting room. There is a touch-enabled screen in there that makes you feel welcome by addressing you by name. However, you can use the screen to request more clothing or other accessories be sent to the room.

The new store offers a hybrid experience because it is seamlessly integrated with the online store. You can buy the clothe right there or save them to your Amazon account to purchase at another time. You can also use the app to find clothes you want online and have them delivered to a nearby Amazon Style store to try them on first. If you haven’t had enough of clothing shopping at the physical store, you can carry on through the app at home.

Amazon offers a method of payment that uses only your palm for identification to make the process smooth. However, Amazon did not mention its Just Walk Out payment method, used in its Amazon Go and Amazon Fresh stores. The feature allows shoppers to walk out of the store without stopping at the counter to make payments.

In its press statement, Amazon says, “We’re excited to introduce Amazon Style, our first-ever physical fashion store where customers can find a selection of women’s and men’s apparel, shoes, and accessories. Amazon Style brings together the best of shopping on Amazon—great prices, selection, and convenience—with an all-new in-store shopping experience built to inspire.

“Customers can browse brands they know and love while also discovering new and emerging designers across hundreds of top brands throughout the store. Using the Amazon Shopping app, customers can send items to a fitting room, where they can use a touchscreen to browse more options, rate items, and request more sizes or styles that are delivered directly to their room within minutes. Amazon Style combines Amazon’s love of fashion with innovative technology and world-class operations to help customers find looks they’ll love.”

Since this is an Amazon store, the technology will attempt to think for you by using algorithms to determine what you might like.

“Amazon Style is built around personalization. Our machine learning algorithms produce tailored, real-time recommendations for each customer as they shop. As customers browse the store and scan items that catch their eye, we’ll recommend picks just for them. For an even more tailored experience, customers can share information like their style, fit, and other preferences to receive more refined recommendations. Even shopping for deals is personalized and convenient—customers can easily view deals in store that match their preferences right in the Amazon Shopping app.”
